Keyboard & Piano

Junior Music Course

Ages 4 - 5

Pre-school age children undergo a period of rapid development in acquiring their aural skills. They can easily memorize whatever sounds and words they hear for the first time. Therefore, if they are exposed to a variety of music by listening, singing and playing at this critical point in their lives, they will acquire a fundamental sense of music that is both solid and balanced.

In the "Junior Music Course," the most appropriate teaching content, approach and style of lesson is adopted in line with children’s physical, emotional and intellectual development levels. Considering music as a language, children can learn in the most natural way.

The goals of the Junior Music Course are:

• To nurture musical sensitivity and creativity through in-class musical group experiences.

• To sing what they hear, to play what they sing, to read what they play, using the keyboard instrument as a learning tool.

• To obtain a comprehensive approach of music, learning the basic elements of music, melody, rhythm and harmony.

Keyboard/Piano - Junior Play For Keeps

Ages 6 - 7

Junior Play For Keeps provides a fun and stimulating environment in which children can enjoy making music on a keyboard. It is open to beginners aged between six and seven and is designed to take the student to an intermediate level.

At the age of six, a child's attention span has started to lengthen and they can stay focused for longer. To further maintain the concentration and motivation for each one hour lesson, the teacher will have prepared at least twenty different activities, blending concentration, relaxation, music games, listening, singing and playing.

We believe that music should be fun, but at the same time, children are learning a variety of important musical skills which include pitch, rhythm, harmony, notation and ensemble playing... all skills that are transferable to other instruments too.

Classes are taught in groups of up to 8 children who are of the same standard, and the Yamaha teaching method is based around learning in a group. Group lessons have many advantages that enable children to enjoy rich musical experiences such as making friends through music, developing cooperativeness and deepening understanding of music through participation in ensembles.

The main focus of this course is:

  • A fun approach to learning music.
  • Listening, singing and reading activities.
  • The aim of taking the student to an intermediate level.
